Build Requirements
The existing farmhouse has a sequence of enclosed spaces with little contact with the surrounding landscape. The client wanted a space that reflected her Chinese cultural roots, whilst connecting the ground floor space in the house to the landscape.
The concept is a simple lean-to roof with a fully glazed wall visually connecting you with the landscape and the immediate timber decking, whilst linking the living room and kitchen together. A sunken table enables flexible seating capacity on the floor.
Using the slope of the site and beam and block floor construction, the sunken table is effortlessly designed into the floor. A bamboo floor and Chinese rice paper screens further reinforce the oriental character of the room.
